INVITATION TO LEN AND DORIS MCBRIDE . DORIS WAS THE BRIDESMAID FOR QUEENIE
Leo and Queenie married in 1932, and are listed in the electoral roll for 1939 as being resident in the District Of Chaffey, in the seat of Wakefield, based in Renmark.
From Marie McBride - Leo was the 9th child of William and Elizabeth, being born in Eurelia. He attended school for a short time, only 2-3 years, before also working to assist the family. As a child of 11 he began working as a server with a priest, travelling around with the priest from parish to parish, for food and board. This lasted until he was about 15 when he went back to the family home, which by then was located in Carrow.
Leo was 35 when he married Emilie Louise Wilson, known by everyone as Queenie. They lived in a house opposite Frank near Loveday, not far from the Loveday Interment Camp. The Camp was 4 separate areas united by walkways and interred German, Italian and Japanese men from Australian states, as well as taking prisoners of war from the Netherlands, Indonesia, the Pacific Islands, New Zealand, Britain and the Middle East. Queenie was not comfortable with them being so close, and at the opportunity to leave, took Marie aged 4 and Barry to an uncle and aunt, who had a hotel in Orroroo. They did not stay long in Orroroo and the family moved to Adelaide, where they set up their home.
