Lucy’s early life was spent with her grandmother Anna Maria Keogh and step grandfather Thomas Roach in Eudunda. She lived with them for many years and so her siblings were more like cousins in that she had not had the time to really know them that well when she returned in her teens. Lucy was the third child out of four children born to William and Elizabeth in six years. As she was the only girl at that time, they may have felt she was better off being with her grandparents. By 1910 she was living with her family again in Carrow - below is a photo taken in 1910 of the Official Party at the opening of the Lipson Hall. Lucy is seated in the front, next to the Captain. William McBride is the first person in the back row, on the left.

Lucy married Walter Leslie Reed 21 March 1917 in the Presbytery of the Catholic Church in Norwood.

In 1932 Lucy, husband Walter and children Peggy and Bill wrote to Len McBride congratulating him on his upcoming marriage to Doris Doig. Reading the brief letters give some indication of their lives on the far west coast of South Australia.

Lucy and Walter had a holding in Calca on the west coast of South Australia, about 20 kilometres south east of Streaky Bay, at one stage in 1945, several animals were stolen.

They moved to Eidsvold in Queensland and in the electoral rolls for 1958 are listed as home duties and grazier.

Lucy died 22 August 1975 in Brisbane Queensland. Walter died in Eidsvold, Queensland, 3 March 1963
